A builder has given us the options of a fixed price contract for our renovations or cost plus and we would like to get some advice on the cost plus option. Do people normally choose cost plus and how realistically can we monitor all the costs and hours worked? Is there anything else we need to take into consideration?

I would like to start a business, helping restaurant owners renovate their shops. What tax deductions can the restaurant owners claim? Can they claim services on renovation? Can they claim tax deductions for the services I provide them?

Hi
I have two properties one i live in and a weekender. I cant receive my pension because of this.
Would i be better off selling both and buying one. Or could i transfer one over to my son and live in the other.
I am worried that I may never receive a pension if i make the wrong choice?

I want to start an online business.
I also work full time at the moment.
If I purchase a new laptop and various new office equipment and software for my new start up business. Can I claim all the expenses within my next tax return? If so what is the maximum I can claim on my start up? Would expenses claimed also cover items/servicrs bought online from other countries?

We are looking at buying a home and living in it for now. We will basically have no mortgage on the property. In afew years time we will look at renting that property and moving to another. Is there a way to set this up so that we transfer the money from one property to the other to maximize negative gearing?

I have a fairly new car that I purchased 18 months ago and currently have a payout figure on my secured personal loan of $27k.
This is about $10 500 more than the car is currently worth if I sell it privately.

I would like to buy a cheaper car (around $10-12k) and sell my car. This means that I'll need a loan of roughly $22 000.

Should I apply for another person loan to cover this and sell my car? Any advice appreciated.

Would you please explain this criteria relating to CGT being based on the sale price less market value for a PPOR?
- when a capital gains tax (CGT) event happens in relation to the dwelling, you would get only a part exemption because you used the dwelling to produce assessable income during the period you owned it
- you would have been entitled to a full exemption if the CGT event happened to the dwelling immediately before you first used it to produce income.

My wife and I currently have 3 unsecured debts between 2 credit cards and a personal loan.
We are working hard to pay them off as soon as possible so we can have some financial freedom, start building some assets and get on with our lives with a house etc down the track.

Is it best to try to consolidate the 3 debts into one so there is one account fee, one interest payment and one monthly payment, or is it better to keep them separate?

I have a small Automotive Engineering business that currently turns over around $50k per year.
Started out with big plans 5 years ago but has now become a one man part time operation from home workshop, and I work full time for someone else.
