Our car was in for service and was involved in an accident in the workshop. it will most likely be written off. Their insurance is paying for it if the car is written off will pay us what the car is insured for, but can we sue them for a replacement car or damages

Hi AS, I doubt it, I’d say it would be covered for market value.
You might be able to lean on them for a loan car until such time as you have a new vehicle.
