How long have you been a finance broker?

Since 1999 – started out with Mortgage House, moved across to Wizard Home Loans and then opened my own business, Home Finance Centre Hobart, 10 years ago.

Where is your business located?

313 Liverpool Street Hobart, directly opposite the Hobart PCYC.

What do you love about being a finance broker?

It is a great feeling when you can help a customer buy a home, especially if they have had a problem dealing with one of the banks.

Is there a particular type of finance you specialise in?

After 17 years I wouldn’t say I focus on one area of finance. I make a concerted effort to ensure all my customers get the best support and service on the purchase of a property, refinance of residential and commercial property. Self Managed Super Funds are quite popular as well.

What’s the best advice you would give to First Home Buyers?

  • Plan how much you need to save and put your money in the bank before you make the decision to go out partying
  • Your first property is only a stepping stone so purchase well within your budget, gain some equity into the property as it may help you buy the next one and start a property portfolio.
  • If you can double your repayments as you may have the home paid off in 8 years.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

You will only fail in life if you don’t give it a go. You will always be right about not being able to do it if you don’t try.

Favourite Hobbies

Watching my two daughters do athletics and gymnastics, reading and every so often (well not that often) I cross the road for a workout at the PCYC

How are you involved with the local community?

Various committee positions and involvement with the Clarence Little Athletics for many years. I love how Little Athletics has something for every kid and can be such a springboard for almost any other sport. I think I have about another 5 years with both summer and winters seasons and I am sure I will miss it
