Welcome Jenny

What service do you provide? Occupation

Accountant/Business Advisor/Tax Agent (also part time counsellor and psychologist!!!)

What is the name of the business?

JTR & Associates

Where is the business located?

In the leafy Sydney suburb of Pymble, NSW

How long have you been an accountant?

Since starting my university degree! Circa 2000

Is there any particular part of Accountancy you specialise in?

We work with many property investors, small businesses and start-ups

What sets you apart from other Accountants?

I am super passionate about our business and live, breath and dream numbers. I truly believe that when you are passionate about what you do in life, you will be successful at it. We share this passion and zest for numbers with our clients, and they usually walk away super excited about tax and accounting and their business. We ground our clients, and take them back to the basic simple principles – Why, What, How, When, Who? On top of that, we believe there is a solution for every problem – hence my title – Chief Problem Solver!

What role does communication play in helping you operate a successful business?

Communication is crucial. In terms of methods, we communicate with our clients in the way that is most convenient for them. This includes video conferencing calls, as well as face-to-face if this is what they prefer. As to what we communicate – it is anything that is important to them or their business! We also establish with our staff and our clients that open communication is key to a successful relationship – so it is important, to be honest at all times – otherwise, we cannot fix a problem that we didn’t even know existed!!

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in business?

This is a difficult question, as I have learned so many lessons since operating the business. The most important one is to stay true to who you are. Don’t forget your vision, and always stay focused on it, as there will be many distractions along the way. Only work with people that share your vision and ethics, and get rid of those that compromise it.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Stay away from those that do not share your vision.

Is there a book you’d recommended to help people stay motivated?

Start with Why – Simon Sinek – this is my go to book when I am feeling lost or unsure.

What are your favourite hobbies?

Exercising (yes, believe it or not, I enjoy it!), spending time with my dogs and as I am a bit of an introvert on the weekends – spending time with ME doing absolutely NOTHING!
