Phil Chun imageHow long have you been a mortgage broker and where is your business located?

I have been helping people with home loans since 2000 when I joined Wizard as a mobile lender in Newtown. I now live & work in Gladesville.

What is the name of the business?

I tried to keep it simple, but imaginative… Phil Chun Home Loans

What do you love about being a Mortgage Broker?

For me it’s the customer interaction. Knowing that my experience & knowledge can take the stress out of the home buying experience & developing long lasting relationships with clients that are ongoing from as far back as my Wizard days. I like to use my knowledge & sense of humour to ensure people are informed along the way but enjoy the process as well. I feel if I can make you smile then I have made a long lasting relationship that will ensure my business thrives & my clients will be confident turning to me for help in the future.

Is there a particular type of finance you specialise in?

All types of residential purchase, refinance or construction finance. I have seen just about every type of loan scenario & found solutions for thousands of people in my years in this industry.

Gladesville BridgeWhat is the property market like in your region?

In the inner west & lower north shore the market has been strong & fairly consistent in regards to increasing value for a long time. These are areas where people want to raise their families so demand is high meaning steady comparative growth.

Are there any particular suburbs or property types you feel represent growth opportunities in your region?

I really like the inner west or north shore of Sydney. For those on a lower budget there are still opportunities to buy in and if you have a pre approval in place you can get out and about on Saturdays to see what’s available.

Those that make the effort are usually rewarded for it.

What’s the one aspect of a loan all borrowers should be aware of?

That’s a hard question that has taken some thought. I think in my role I am fairly competent at ensuring my clients are aware of the process, requirements, costs & possible outcomes of a loan application. If I have to say one thing it would be to trust the person you have chosen to help you & tell them the whole truth. In my time I have heard some very interesting stories. The best way to get the outcome you want as a borrower is to be up-front about your assets, credit history, the credit facilities you have and anything else the lender asks about. It all comes out in the end & makes the process smoother if it is known up-front.

What are your favourite hobbies?

I am a dedicated Sunday golfer at Ryde-Parramatta. I have only been playing for 3 years & recently just got my handicap below 30 for the first time. There’s nothing like the sound of a sweetly hit 3 wood then looking up & seeing it sailing straight ahead to the sounds of, “Shot Phil!” It doesn’t happen as often as I would like, though.

How are you involved in the local community?

Being a father to 2 young girl’s,  time is limited but do I sit on the Gladesville Public School P & C & have contributed to some of the events the school runs each year. I have also performed volunteer work at North Ryde Community Aid, completed the Oxfam 100 km walk and have proudly been recently appointed a Justice of the Peace.
